Danny House, Grade I listed mansion in Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common, England.
Danny House is a red brick mansion from the 16th century with 56 bedrooms and 28 apartments set within eight acres of gardens and around 400 acres of historic parkland. The building now serves as a retirement home, providing fully serviced apartments to its residents.
The building was constructed between 1593 and 1595 by George Goring and served as a meeting place during World War I armistice negotiations. This role places the estate among sites of national historical importance.
The grounds hold one of the earliest known cricket grounds, with records stretching back to the 1700s. This connection shows how the estate played a role in the sport's early development in England.
The grounds cover extensive gardens and parkland that can be explored, with the main building centrally located. The size of the property means you will need time to move around, so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for changing weather.
The grounds contain Danny Old One, an ancient oak tree with a trunk girth of about 10 meters, ranking among the oldest trees in the Sussex Weald region. This remarkable tree draws little attention despite having survived for centuries.
