Great North Western Hotel, Grade II listed railway hotel near Lime Street Station, Liverpool, England.
The Great North Western Hotel is a five-story building with 330 rooms beside Lime Street Station, marked by two towers and a central entrance with Doric columns. The structure spans 21 bays across its facade and includes basement and attic levels.
The building was constructed in 1871 by the London and North Western Railway and initially served as a railway hotel for travelers. After operating until 1933, it was later converted into student housing for John Moores University.
The Renaissance Revival building incorporates French château elements with stone construction, reflecting the architectural preferences of the Victorian railway expansion period.
The building underwent extensive renovation and reopened in 2022 under new management. Visitors can easily view and access the exterior facade from the station area.
The building was designed by architect Alfred Waterhouse, who also created other important Victorian structures. His design principles are clearly visible in the symmetrical arrangement and detailed decoration of the hotel building.
