Old Holy Trinity Church, Wentworth, Medieval church in Wentworth, England
Old Holy Trinity Church is a Gothic building featuring pointed-arch windows, stone walls, and an elevated bell tower. Originally constructed in the 15th century, it now serves primarily as a memorial site with graves and commemorative stones.
The building dates from the 15th century and originally functioned as an active parish church for the community. Following the opening of a new church in 1877, it was transformed into a private family mausoleum.
The church remains deeply connected to the Wentworth family, who shaped the village for generations. Visitors can see memorial stones and alabaster figures from the 16th and 17th centuries that reflect the family's importance to the area.
The site is easily accessible on foot and offers parking spaces along the nearby road. Visitors should check opening times in advance, as the building does not remain open daily.
The churchyard holds the grave of Chow Kwang Tseay, a person from China brought to Rotherham in 1847. This burial reveals an unexpected historical link between Yorkshire and East Asia.
