Peninsula Building, Commercial building in Green Quarter, Manchester, England
Peninsula Building is an office tower in Manchester's Green Quarter with an elliptical floor plan that rises 62.5 meters high. Its 16 floors wrap in a glass and granite exterior, housing approximately 24,000 square meters of commercial workspace alongside underground parking facilities.
Construction started in 2007 and the building opened to tenants in September 2009. It emerged during a period when Manchester's city centre underwent rapid redevelopment with numerous new office towers transforming the urban landscape.
The building's curved form stands out sharply against Manchester's traditional Victorian structures nearby. Its position in the Green Quarter signals the area's transformation into a modern business hub where glass towers now neighbour historic warehouses.
The building sits next to Manchester Arena and near Victoria Station, making it easily accessible by public transport or car. Four basement levels provide ample parking, while its central location puts restaurants, shops, and transit connections within walking distance.
A vertical wind turbine crowns the rooftop, designed to generate renewable energy for the building's operations, though it remains inactive today. This installation reflects an early attempt to incorporate sustainability into the tower's design.
