Rhinog Fach, Mountain summit in Gwynedd, Wales
Rhinog Fach is a 712-meter mountain with a pronounced rocky crown that rises above the surrounding Rhinogydd range in northern Snowdonia. The summit displays a distinctive rock formation that contrasts sharply with the grassy slopes found elsewhere in the region.
The mountain has been classified through different peak classification systems that document its geographical position. These categorizations reflect growing human efforts to systematically understand the geography of Welsh mountain landscapes.
The name comes from Welsh language, where 'fach' means small and distinguishes this peak from its neighbor Rhinog Fawr. The landscape reflects the rugged character of these mountains, which have long been woven into local identity and storytelling.
Hikers can reach the summit through multiple trails, with main routes starting from Cwm Bychan or via the Bwlch Drws Ardudwy pass. The terrain is rocky and requires sure footing, especially in wet conditions.
Despite standing at 712 meters, this mountain has a noticeably different character than its taller neighbor Y Llethr. Its rocky surface formation is unusual compared to many neighboring peaks in the area.
