Rhinog Fawr, Mountain summit in Snowdonia, Wales.
Rhinog Fawr is a mountain summit in the Rhinog range rising to 720 meters with dramatic rocky crags and heather-covered slopes. A small mountain lake called Llyn Du sits at approximately 510 meters elevation on the mountainside.
The mountain sits along an old path that historically served as a trade route connecting northern and southern Wales. This ancient way remains visible in the landscape today as a recognized walking path.
The peak forms part of the Cambrian Way, a substantial walking path extending from Cardiff to Conwy through numerous Welsh mountain ranges.
The climb requires some navigation skills since multiple paths lead to the summit and route conditions vary based on starting points. The northeastern approach from Graigddu-isaf offers the clearest trail markings and is generally easier to follow.
The mountain holds the classification of a Marilyn with 363 meters of prominence, making it stand out prominently across the region. This geographic distinction means the peak remains visible from far away across the surrounding landscape.
