Selfridges Building, Birmingham, Department store and architectural landmark in Birmingham, England.
The Selfridges Building features a curved facade covered with over 15,000 anodized aluminum discs that create a reflective and tactile surface visible throughout central Birmingham.
Completed in September 2003 as part of the Bullring Shopping Centre redevelopment, the building marked a major investment of approximately £60 million in contemporary retail architecture.
Designed by Future Systems architects Jan Kaplický and Amanda Levete, the structure won the RIBA Award for Architecture in 2004 and became a symbol of Birmingham's modern identity.
The store spans six floors covering about 160,000 square feet (approximately 14,864 square meters) and is easily accessible via public transport near Birmingham's city center at Moor Street.
The building's organic Blobitecture style, with its blob-like curving form and shimmering disc-clad exterior, stands apart from traditional rectangular retail structures and challenges conventional architectural design.
