St James with Holy Trinity Church, Scarborough, Anglican church in Scarborough, England
St James with Holy Trinity Church is an Anglican place of worship situated on Seamer Road, designed in the Gothic Revival style. The building displays brick walls with stone ornaments and features the pointed arches characteristic of this architectural period.
The church was built in 1894 following designs by architects Sharpe, Paley and Austin. It developed from an earlier chapel that had been established by F. Hartop Holt.
The oak screen from 1921 commemorates civilians killed in the 1914 naval bombardment, showing how the community integrated this tragic moment into the church's interior. The memorial reflects how the congregation kept local history alive within their place of worship.
The space offers four rental areas for events, including a workshop and gallery in the lower level. Regular communion services take place twice monthly, which helps visitors understand when the building is actively used for worship.
The east window displays a Last Supper scene honoring the church founder and was created by artist Carl Almquist among others. These stained glass windows are subtle details that many visitors miss on their first visit.
