Sgùrr nan Gillean, Mountain summit in Isle of Skye, Scotland

Sgùrr nan Gillean is a mountain on the Isle of Skye with a distinctive triangular peak reaching 964 meters (3,162 feet). It stands as one of eleven Munros in the northern Cuillin range and draws climbers from across the region.

The mountain saw its first recorded ascent in 1836 by Duncan Macintyre and James Forbes, establishing early routes to the summit. Since then it has become a favorite destination for climbers exploring the Cuillin range.

The Southeast Ridge path represents the standard climbing route, requiring careful navigation through steep sections and loose rocks toward the mountain peak.

The climb starts from Sligachan Hotel with regular bus connections available from nearby towns. Plan a full day for the ascent and descent, and avoid the route in poor weather or fading light.

The peak features three separate ridges, with only the Southeast Ridge offering a scrambler-friendly route without technical climbing. The other two ridges demand proper climbing skills and equipment.
