St Peter's Church, Harborne, Grade II listed church in Harborne, Birmingham, England
St Peter's Church is a Grade II listed church in Harborne, Birmingham, built with a medieval stone tower attached to a Victorian nave. Inside, there are eight bells and an organ that replaced an earlier one after a fire in 1975.
The site dates to Saxon times, making it one of the older places of Christian worship in the Birmingham area. In the 1860s, architect Yeoville Thomason redesigned most of the building in a Victorian style, while keeping the older stone tower.
The medieval stone tower is the oldest visible part of the building and stands in clear contrast to the Victorian nave around it. The churchyard is still used by the local community, and the mix of old and newer graves shows how the site has served Harborne across many generations.
The church is open for services throughout the week and welcomes visitors outside of service times as well. The cemetery grounds can be entered freely and are easy to walk around at your own pace.
The churchyard holds 40 Commonwealth war graves from both World Wars, each registered with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. They are grouped in a defined part of the cemetery and are open for visitors to see without any restriction.
