St Mary the Virgin's Church, Stansted Mountfitchet

St Mary the Virgin's Church features a flint and stone construction with a prominent brick tower, displaying Norman architectural elements throughout its structure.

The church construction began in 1120 under William Mountfitchet's direction, with later modifications including a chancel extension in the 13th century and tower addition in 1692.

Two exceptional 17th-century tomb figures inside the church depict Hester Salusbury in hunting attire and her father Sir Thomas Middleton in period clothing.

Visitors can access the church daily between 11am and 3pm, with a dedicated parking area for 20 vehicles located 28 meters from the north door.

The church tower contains eight bells arranged in an unconventional anti-clockwise configuration, differing from standard clockwise bell arrangements in most churches.
