Malton Priory, Religious complex in Old Malton, United Kingdom
The stone church structure of Malton Priory stands with Norman architectural elements, including robust walls and rounded arches throughout its remaining sections.
Established in 1101 by Eustace fitz John, the priory functioned as a monastery until the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII in 1539.
The church interior contains 35 misericords, with eight original medieval carvings depicting animals and symbols from the 15th century religious art tradition.
Located on Town Street in Old Malton, Yorkshire, the priory remains an active place of worship and represents the last functioning Gilbertine church in England.
Three medieval stone drying coffins rest against the rear wall of the churchyard, while a dedicated coffin shelf remains integrated into the stone boundary wall.
