Plantation Place South, Office building in City of London, United Kingdom
Plantation Place South is a modern office building at the corner of Great Tower Street and Mincing Lane with nine floors. The structure houses several insurance companies including Arch, AXIS, and Beazley at its main entrance on Great Tower Street.
The building was constructed between 2002 and 2004 following designs by Arup Associates from 2001. It followed modern planning principles for the City's financial districts.
An art installation called 'Time and Tide' by Simon Patterson adorns Plantation Lane and shows London's development from Roman times to today. The work tells the city's story through visual elements that visitors encounter while passing through.
The building sits in an easily accessible location near other financial institutions in the City of London. Visitors can explore the surrounding area on foot since the district is well connected by public pathways.
The site sits directly above remains of ancient Londinium, the Roman settlement that laid the foundation for the modern city. Archaeologists uncovered coins from the 2. century in the area, testifying to the location's long trading tradition.
