Sgùrr Choinnich, Mountain summit in Highland, Scotland

Sgùrr Choinnich is a mountain in the Scottish Highlands reaching approximately 1,000 meters high. The peak features steep grassy slopes with a narrow ridge at the top, offering views down to the Coire Choinnich ravine and south toward Loch Monar.

This peak entered the Munro classification system in the late 1800s, a catalog that lists Scottish mountains above 914 meters. The designation transformed the mountain into a sought destination for hillwalkers pursuing these high peaks.

This peak draws climbers who seek out the high routes crossing the northern Highlands. The mountain sits within a landscape that shapes how visitors experience the remote Scottish terrain.

The climb starts from Glen Carron and follows a path alongside Allt a' Chonais stream before heading toward the north ridge. The terrain is exposed and windy, so sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are essential for this outing.

The northern face contains dramatic rock outcrops that rise sharply above Coire Choinnich. These striking formations make the northeastern approach a more serious undertaking than the standard route from Glen Carron.
