St Mary's Church, South Tidworth

St Mary's Church is a Grade I listed place of worship in South Tidworth with walls built from brown dressed stone and a tall bell turret. The structure displays Gothic Revival features and includes north and south aisles that extend the interior space.

The current building was constructed in 1878 by architect John Johnson and funded by Sir John Kelk. It replaced an earlier church from the 13th or 14th century that had stood on the site.

The stained glass windows were crafted by the renowned Clayton and Bell artisans and display intricate designs. The interior space impresses with marble columns and Italian mosaic floors in the chancel, adding elegance to the room.

Access to the interior requires contacting the keyholder beforehand, as the building operates with limited entry due to past vandalism incidents. It is best to arrange a visit in advance rather than expecting walk-in access.

The church grounds feature an avenue of yew trees, including one particularly large specimen with impressive girth. This mature growth contributes to the calm character of the site.
