Thorne Memorial Park Miniature Railway

Thorne Memorial Park Miniature Railway is a rideable miniature railway located in South Yorkshire that runs on two separate loops within the park. The railway uses two different track gauges, 7.25-inch and 5-inch, allowing passengers to ride on both types of trains.

The railway began operations in 1998 after the group moved from their original location at Doncaster Plant Works to the park. The initial layout featured a dual-gauge loop that served as the foundation for the current expanded track system.

The railway brings people together on weekends as families and visitors share rides through the park. Local volunteers maintain the locomotives and coaches, keeping the tradition of miniature railways alive in the region.

Train rides are available most weekends throughout the year, with the main season running from Easter through October. Plan to arrive early on pleasant days to secure a spot, as rides can be popular with families and visitors.

The locomotive depot is housed in a World War II air raid shelter, which provides storage space and convenient access to water and power. This inventive reuse of a wartime structure shows how the railway makes use of what is available at the park.
