Braehead, Shopping center and indoor ski slope in Renfrewshire, Scotland
Braehead is a large complex on the south bank of the Clyde that combines retail space, restaurants, and an ice sports hall under one roof. The site includes several connected buildings housing shops, a bowling center, and cinemas in addition to the main shopping area.
The site was once part of the King's Inch lands, where a three-floor castle stood during the 15th century. A power station was later built here before the current complex arose in the mid-1990s.
The integrated Braehead Arena regularly hosts national sporting events, including curling championships and ice skating competitions throughout the year.
The complex opens daily and offers a large parking area along with bus connections from Glasgow and surrounding towns. Shops and facilities are spread across multiple levels, so walking around takes some time to cover.
The indoor ski slope maintains a year-round temperature of minus four degrees Celsius and uses special machines to produce snow. Visitors can ski or snowboard here without waiting for natural snowfall to arrive.
