Saltford Brass Mill, Industrial mill building in Saltford, England
Saltford Brass Mill is an 18th-century mill building on the banks of the River Avon that processed metal sheets. The site features a working waterwheel, an annealing furnace, and original machinery still visible inside the structure.
The mill began operations in 1720 and continued for roughly 200 years before closing. During this period, raw materials from Cornwall and the Mendip Hills were combined here to produce brass goods.
This facility represents the final remaining example of over 30 mills that processed brass along the River Avon during the industrial period.
The building is open to visitors on select days throughout the year, with specific times that vary by season. Groups can arrange special tours if they contact ahead of their visit.
The building preserves one of the few surviving annealing furnaces used in this type of industrial facility. This particular furnace reveals how brass sheets were treated during production to make them durable.
