Church of St Etheldreda, Grade II* listed church building in West Quantoxhead, England.
The Church of St Etheldreda is a stone structure in West Quantoxhead topped by a tower with a spire and gilded cross. Inside, it holds about 250 people and features an organ by Walker of London along with stained glass windows by O'Connor of London.
In 1853, Sir Alexander Fuller-Acland-Hood commissioned this new church to replace a crumbling medieval structure that dated to the 13th century. During construction, the community worshipped in a temporary wooden building that was later moved to Stolford and became St Andrew's Mission Church.
The church serves as a living community center where regular worship and gatherings take place. Visitors can feel the local connection here, especially during seasonal celebrations like the Carols by Candlelight event each December.
The church is easy to access, and you can view the interior with its artwork and organ. Since it remains an active worship space, it's best to visit outside of service times or check for special events happening throughout the year.
The five bells housed in the tower create a distinctive sound that marks the rhythm of village life. These bells ring for various occasions and remain an important auditory signature of the church within the community.
