Alfoxton House, Grade II listed country house in Holford, England

Alfoxton House is a stone country residence with rendered walls, dormer windows, and traditional pitched roofing situated on private grounds. The interior is organized around a central hallway, with primary rooms flanking both sides and additional chambers in the upper floor.

The building was constructed in 1710 following a fire that destroyed an earlier structure on the site. It received Grade II listed status in 1969.

The house holds importance in English Romantic literature, having hosted writers who spent formative time here in the late 1700s. Visitors can walk through rooms where literary figures once lived and worked.

The property is surrounded by mature woodland and parking is limited on the private grounds, so visitors should arrange access in advance. Planning ahead ensures smooth arrival at this secluded rural location.

An extension on the left includes an orangery topped with a steeply pitched roof over a verandah, which displays the St Albyn family coat of arms. This decorative feature is a rare example of such garden rooms from this era.
