Castlebar Barracks, Military barracks in Castlebar, Ireland
The three-story military installation at Rock Square features original architectural elements despite several modifications made throughout its existence.
Constructed in 1834 on the site of an old castle, the barracks housed the 3rd Battalion of the Connaught Rangers until their disbandment in 1901.
The barracks served as a temporary location for St. Patrick's Boys National School in 1957 when their original building burned down.
Mayo County Council acquired the property after its closure in 2012, maintaining a portion for Defence Forces reserve unit activities.
Construction workers discovered a human skull in block A's ceiling during renovation work in January 2016.
