Ballintubber Abbey, Medieval abbey in Ballintubber, County Mayo, Ireland
The stone abbey features three light-transitional windows with chevron archivolts and foliate capitals in the Hiberno Romanesque architectural style.
Founded in 1216 by King Cathal Crobdearg Ua Conchobair, the abbey underwent multiple restorations, including major works in 1846, 1881, and throughout the 20th century.
The abbey maintains its function as both a national monument and an active parish church, hosting regular religious services and community gatherings.
Visitors can explore the small museum, view the abstract Stations of the Cross, and participate in guided tours that detail 800 years of ecclesiastical history.
The 35-kilometer pilgrim path Tóchar Phádraig starts at Ballintubber Abbey and leads to the sacred mountain of Croagh Patrick.
