Ballintubber Abbey is a grey limestone building with a steep slate roof and a central gabled facade topped by a stone cross. The facade has three tall round-headed windows at the lower level, a smaller window above, and a round-headed window near the top. Lower wings with narrow windows and a wooden door in a recessed arched opening extend to the left and right.
The monastery was founded in the early 1200s and underwent several reconstructions across the centuries. Its walls were repaired multiple times in the 1800s and 1900s to preserve it for future generations.
The abbey functions as an active parish church where locals and visitors gather for services and celebrations. The stone walls and quiet courtyards remain central to the community's spiritual life.
