מזנון סביח המקורי, Sabich restaurant in Ramat Gan, Israel
The Original Sabich is a restaurant serving traditional pitas filled with fried eggplant, hard-boiled eggs, tahini, hummus, and fresh vegetables in different combinations. Each sandwich is assembled to order, bringing together ingredients that define Middle Eastern casual dining.
The restaurant started in 1961 as a small food stand founded by Tzvi Halabi and Yaakov Sasson near the end of bus line 63. From this modest beginning, the dish grew into a widespread phenomenon across Israel.
Sabich grew from Iraqi-Jewish cooking traditions and became a popular Israeli street food starting from this location. The dish represents a blend of Middle Eastern flavors that have become part of everyday eating habits across the country.
The location is run by founding families on a rotating schedule, with each group managing operations for two-week periods throughout the year. Visitors may notice different styles of service depending on which family is in charge during their visit.
In July 2020, Ramat Gan municipality named a new public square after this location to honor the creation of sabich at this site. This official recognition marks the place as a significant point in Israeli food history.
