Groupe Putia

The Putia Group is a mountain subgroup located between Valle Isarco and Val Badia, with Sass de Putia standing at about 2,900 meters as its main peak. The range divides into eastern and western sections separated by several ridges that create distinct hiking areas.

Early 2000s archaeological work in the area uncovered evidence of ancient hunter-gatherer settlements in this mountain region. These discoveries show that people inhabited the high peaks long before modern times.

The Passo delle Erbe pass connects local stories and mountain traditions that visitors experience while walking the region's routes today. The area blends old narratives with contemporary hiking, where travelers encounter both natural beauty and cultural landmarks along the way.

The Genova hut at about 2,300 meters elevation serves as a base for exploring routes throughout the area. Sturdy footwear and layered clothing are essential since mountain weather can change quickly at altitude.

The Günther-Messner-Steig is a challenging route through the massif that uses metal cables and ladders for steep sections. Experienced hikers seek out this technically interesting path when looking for more demanding mountain passages.
