Riserva naturale orientata Parma Morta, Regional nature reserve in Mezzani, Italy.
Riserva naturale orientata Parma Morta spans 66 hectares along a former river branch situated between the Parma and Enza rivers. The area contains wetlands and various plant communities that form the structure of this river landscape.
The area was once an active river channel until the Parma River course shifted after 1870 to flow directly into the Po. This natural change created the conditions for what became a protected reserve today.
The visitor center displays freshwater fish from the region in tanks, including eels, mirror carps, and sturgeons that live in these waters. The exhibition helps visitors understand the animal life found throughout the reserve.
A circular path guides visitors through the reserve and is suitable for walking, cycling, and horseback riding. Parking facilities are located near the entrance for convenient access.
A water management system maintains steady water levels in the reserve while supporting rare aquatic plants like Utricularia vulgaris that trap small insects. This system is essential for sustaining the sensitive ecosystem found here.
