Santa Maria Nascente Church, Religious building in Matteotti Square, Brescello, Italy.
Santa Maria Nascente Church is a religious building on Matteotti Square featuring three naves with rounded arches, six side altars, and a marble statue of the Virgin created by artist Innocente Franceschini. The interior displays a clear classical structure with symmetrical arrangement of the devotional spaces.
The current structure replaced a medieval church and was rebuilt from 1829 to 1837 to meet safety standards and accommodate a larger congregation. This reconstruction responded to the growing needs of the community in the early 19th century.
The church is located in a town known as a filming location for Italian movies, particularly those featuring the characters Don Camillo and Peppone from the 1950s. These films shaped how people view the town and demonstrate its deep connection to cinema.
The building is easily accessible from outside through Matteotti Square with a main entrance facing the plaza. Visitors should respect the dress code and be aware that certain times are reserved for private prayer and religious services.
A plaster cast sculpture of Padre Pio by local artist Carlo Pisi stands on the right side of the main altar. This work represents the local artistic devotion to religious figures in the town.
