Water features and ponds are integrated throughout the grounds, creating different landscape experiences as you move through the property.
Lady Susana Walton started creating these gardens in 1956, working with landscape architect Russell Page to develop the original design. The project grew from Walton's passion for plants and her desire to establish a remarkable garden on the island.
A Greek-style theater in the gardens hosts summer concerts where youth orchestras from music schools in Naples, Rome, and Florence perform. This tradition connects music and nature in a way visitors can experience directly.
The garden opens from March through November on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, giving you ample time to explore both levels and different areas. Wear comfortable shoes since the pathways include uneven terrain and stairs throughout the property.
The Victoria House greenhouse displays the Brazilian Victoria amazonica water lily and the Philippine jade vine with remarkable green flowers. These rare plants are difficult to see outside their native habitats, making them a special draw for visitors interested in botany.
