Monte Montiego, Mountain summit in Piobbico, Italy
Monte Montiego is a 975-meter (3,200 ft) peak in the Marche region of central Italy, featuring limestone cliffs and forested slopes. The summit sits at the border of three municipalities and offers views across the Apennine landscape from its top.
The climbing routes were established in 1966 by Castellani and Vampa, marking the start of mountaineering activities in this section of the Apennines. This area then became a notable destination for climbers in the region.
The mountain connects three municipalities in Pesaro and Urbino province: Piobbico, Acqualagna, and Urbania, serving as a natural boundary between neighboring communities. Visitors notice this role as a landmark when climbing from different sides and taking in the views.
This peak is best visited between September and April when weather conditions are most stable. A 30-minute walk from the parking area near the quarry takes you to several starting points for different routes.
The Balza della Penna section features a 200-meter vertical limestone wall that rises above the Gorgo Cerbara ravine. From this vantage point, you can see Monte Nerone towering on the opposite side.
