Ducal Palace, Renaissance palace in Urbania, Italy

The Ducal Palace in Urbania is a Renaissance residence with multiple levels, towers, and an open loggia. Visitors can move through different rooms and reach elevated sections using a spiral ramp designed by Francesco di Giorgio.

Construction of the palace began in 1470 under commission from Federico da Montefeltro. Francesco di Giorgio and Girolamo Genga directed the design of this Renaissance fortified residence.

The palace houses a civic museum with rare books and extensive collections of Renaissance paintings and ceramics. These works reflect the artistic tastes of the rulers who once lived here.

The best time to visit is in the morning when visitor numbers are lower and rooms are easier to explore. Wear comfortable shoes since the stairs and spiral ramp require steady footsteps.

The palace holds two precious globes from the 1540s made by Gerhard Kremer, known as Mercator. These objects show the cartographic advances that Mercator achieved through his revolutionary projection methods.
