Necropoli del tempio di Antonino Pio e Faustina, Ancient necropolis at Roman Forum, Italy
The necropolis contains forty-one prehistoric burial sites located in front of the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina in the Roman Forum.
Archaeologist Giacomo Boni discovered this burial ground in 1902 during excavations that revealed tombs dating from the 10th to 5th centuries BCE.
The burial site includes both cremation and inhumation tombs, containing funerary items, urns, and skeletal remains that document early Roman funeral practices.
The necropolis remains are marked by grass plots that outline the shapes of the underlying tombs near the temple's southwest corner.
The tomb artifacts indicate connections with eastern Italian cultures, suggesting early contact with Sabine civilization mentioned in Roman legends.
