Gruppo di edifici domizianei nel Foro Romano, Roman Empire buildings in Roman Forum, Italy

The Domitianic complex contains a large brick hall topped by a 33-meter barrel vault and a portico overlooking the Roman Forum. Beneath the atrium sit earlier structures built under Emperor Caligula, including a rectangular pool and a curved room.

Built under Emperor Domitian, this complex served as a link between the Roman Forum and the imperial palaces on Palatine Hill. The construction was part of Domitian's broader effort to reshape and expand the Forum area during his reign.

Shops lined the Vicus Tuscus street while administrative spaces managed daily Forum operations and imperial affairs. These commercial and official areas reflected how the Forum functioned as the center of Roman public life.

Access to this site is typically included with a ticket to the entire Forum complex, so plan to spend time exploring multiple areas at once. The remains are partially overgrown, requiring careful attention to understand the original room layout and building structure.

A covered stairway within the complex ascends directly to Palatine Hill, revealing how Roman emperors moved between their private residences and the public Forum. This hidden passage shows the intimate connection between imperial private spaces and the heart of Roman public affairs.
