Museo archeologico dell'agro nocerino

The Museo archeologico dell'agro nocerino occupies a section of the thirteenth-century Sant'Antonio Monastery and displays objects from ancient times. The layout includes several exhibition halls where pottery, jewelry, and statues from different periods are presented.

The collection stems from excavations at the ancient city of Nuceria Alfaterna and a nearby cemetery, which yielded objects spanning several centuries. The museum opened its doors in 1964 to make these discoveries available to the public.

The museum's name refers to the fertile farmland surrounding Nocera that was cultivated since ancient times. The displayed objects reveal how people lived and which gods held meaning in their daily lives.

The museum is located in the old town center and is easy to reach on foot, with the rooms clearly organized for easy navigation. Visitors should plan for one to two hours to see the collection thoroughly.

A highlight of the collection is a marble statue of Athena dating to the first century BC, discovered in 1958 at an ancient theater. This rare artwork demonstrates the craftsmanship and religious devotion of that era.
