Casale del Pozzo is an inhabited village in Nocera Inferiore featuring multiple stone buildings with Mediterranean design elements like arched windows and terracotta roofs. The settlement shows a mix of construction styles, with individual houses preserving features from different periods.

The settlement grew around the Cavense church of Sant'Angelo in Grotta, documented from 1023 and founded around 1079; in 1111 the lord of Nocera, Giordano, confirmed its privileges to the prior. From 1470 the church area formed the autonomous Università di Sant'Angelo in Grotta, whose inhabitants cultivated vines and chestnuts. After 1548 it joined the Universitas Trium Casalium with Capocasale and Casale Nuovo, counting about 232 fuochi in 1595; a chapel to San Rocco was built after the 1656 plague.

The rione's name comes from the well at the old gateway of Casa Tortora; other wells in the area are now covered and no longer visible. The neighbourhood is divided into four traditional zones: Mmiez' o' puzzo, Ngopp o' Casale, Ncopp' Sant'Angelo and Monte d'o' Casale d'o' puzzo. It appears in the novels of Domenico Rea.

The rione lies along the old corso, now Corso Vittorio Emanuele, and is split in two by the SS18: the pedemontana part climbs toward Montalbino, the lower part sits around the junction with via Francesco Federici. The four traditional zones are Mmiez' o' puzzo at that junction, Ngopp o' Casale by via Atzori, Ncopp' Sant'Angelo along via Ovidio Forino, and Monte d'o' Casale d'o' puzzo on the slope. Expect sloping streets.
