Villino Ximenes, Art Nouveau villa in Nomentano district, Rome, Italy
Villino Ximenes is an Art Nouveau villa in Rome's Nomentano district, built with a quadrangular structure of polished Sicilian limestone. Its exterior surfaces are adorned with ceramic tiles displaying floral and plant patterns.
Architect Ernesto Basile designed the residence in 1902 for sculptor Ettore Ximenes, who participated in shaping both the interior and exterior decorative elements. The project emerged during a period of artistic experimentation in Italy.
The dining room displays leather-covered walls and golden mosaic elements, combined with painted friezes that portray the variety of foods found across different seasons.
The villa is located at Via Bartolomeo Eustachio 2 and currently functions as a university guesthouse that is open to visitors. Before planning a visit, it is best to check conditions as access depends on scheduling and availability.
A continuous frieze runs along the building, depicting a procession of Roman artists surrounding an Ara Artium monument. This decorative element connects classical Roman tradition with the owner's modern artistic vision.
