Onoe stable, Sumo wrestling stable in Ota ward, Tokyo, Japan.
Onoe stable is a training facility for sumo wrestlers in Ota ward, Tokyo, where athletes live under fixed rules and refine their techniques every day. Fighters follow a strict daily schedule that includes shared meals, strength exercises, and multi-hour sessions in the practice ring.
The stable was opened in August 2006 by former komusubi Hamanoshima after he separated from the Mihogaseki group. It started operations with several experienced wrestlers and has since built its own roster of newcomers.
The stable maintains traditional sumo practices, including the preparation of chanko-nabe stew and morning training sessions that preserve centuries-old wrestling customs.
The stable is located in Ikegami in Ota ward and operates with a fixed group of fighters who take part in the major tournaments around the country. A visit from the outside is normally not possible because training remains internal and access is restricted to members.
Three fighters had to retire from active competition in 2011 after a manipulation scandal. That incident led to stricter controls across the whole sumo world at the time.
