Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium, Public aquarium in Minato-machi, Japan.
Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium is a public aquarium in Minato-machi presenting marine life from Japanese waters and world oceans in two multi-story buildings. The complex spreads across five floors with separate areas for different climate zones and habitats.
The aquarium opened in October 1992 as part of Nagoya port development. Over the years, the facility expanded its collection to include large marine mammals and polar species.
The name connects the facility to the Port of Nagoya, one of Japan's largest seaports. Visitors today see dolphin and orca shows in a large outdoor pool.
Nagoya Port station on the Meiko Line sits five minutes away on foot at Garden Pier. Plan at least three hours to see the main areas and outdoor sections.
Special tanks simulate Antarctic conditions with temperatures below freezing. Researchers observe penguins and other polar animals there in a replicated ice landscape.
