Tokyo Kōsei Nenkin Kaikan, Theatre building in Shinjuku, Japan.
Tokyo Kōsei Nenkin Kaikan was a performing arts complex in Shinjuku that housed a large concert hall with more than two thousand seats. The facility also included a hotel, several restaurants, and banquet spaces under one roof, offering a complete setting for performances and receptions.
The complex opened its doors in April 1961 with a performance by actor and singer Morishige Hisaya. Over the following five decades, the site hosted numerous performers from Japan and abroad before closing in March 2010.
The theater building served as a central performance space in Tokyo, hosting numerous Japanese and international artists for concerts and theatrical productions.
The venue stood in Shinjuku, about five minutes from Shinjuku-sanchōme Station and a quarter hour from Shinjuku Station. The central location made it easy to reach public transit and lodging in the surrounding area.
After closure, the main part of the complex was sold through public auction to electronics retailer Yodobashi Camera. The purchase reached around twelve billion yen, and the site received a new commercial use.
