5upよしもと, Comedy theater in Namba, Japan
The 5up よしもと was a comedy theater located on the fifth floor of the YES-NAMBA building in Namba, Osaka, with seating for 313 people arranged across 15 rows. The hall stood opposite the Namba Grand Kagetsu and provided a stage for emerging talent within the Yoshimoto Kogyo network.
The theater opened on January 1, 2011 as a stepping stone for young comedians and closed on November 24, 2014. During its nearly four years, it launched many emerging performers who later gained wider recognition.
The theater specialized in manzai performances and comedy shows, contributing to the preservation of Kansai region's traditional entertainment forms.
Performers started in dedicated programs and worked their way up through different tiers, regularly earning new roles. Shows followed a set structure that helped visitors follow the development of individual comedians over time.
The name referenced the fifth floor location while simultaneously symbolizing the upward climb of performers to higher career levels. This double meaning reflected the core concept behind the house.
