Ezzelini Castle, Medieval castle in Romano d'Ezzelino, Italy

Built on Colle Bastia hill, the castle features a quadrangular layout with double walls and four corner towers overlooking the surrounding plains.

Emperor Conrad II granted the castle to Ecelo, founder of the Ezzelini family, as recognition for his loyalty in the early 11th century.

The annual Palio of Romano includes medieval reenactments at the castle site, focusing on the life of Ezzelino III da Romano.

The remains of the castle walls, along with scattered stones and bricks, are visible along the access road leading to the hill.

The castle structure incorporated steep northern cliffs and gentle southern slopes, creating a natural defense system that made it nearly impregnable.
