Katsuyama-date

Katsuyama-date is a fortified residence in Kaminokuni featuring preserved stone walls, foundations, and surrounding moats. The site displays defensive techniques from the Sengoku period with layered structures and protective layouts.

The site was built in 1473 under Takeda Nobuhiro's direction and served as a strategic military outpost during regional conflicts. It developed into an important defensive position in the local feudal landscape.

The site shows how people of that era connected living spaces with defense and used walls as a display of authority. The layout of the structures reflects the social standing of a samurai family.

An orientation facility on site provides information about the architecture and history of the fortification. The best time to visit is during clear weather when the paths and structures are easy to observe.

The site received recognition in 2017 as one of the Continued 100 Fine Castles of Japan, marking its architectural importance. This designation distinguishes it among similar sites in the region.
