Château de Shirosei, Historic Japanese fortress in Shiroishi, Japan.
The stone and wooden structure of Shiroishi Castle rises above the flat terrain of Shiroishi City, featuring traditional defensive walls and a central tower.
The Katakura clan governed this strategic fortress during the Edo period as retainers of the Date clan from Sendai Domain until 1875.
The castle exhibits architectural elements of Japanese military design, with its stone foundation supporting multiple wooden levels typical of feudal construction methods.
Visitors can access the castle through regular train services to Shiroishi station, with the site opening daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
The castle survived as one of the few fortifications that remained intact despite the Tokugawa shogunate's strict limitations on castle construction.
