Ōshiba Sluice

Ōshiba Sluice spans approximately 470 meters across the waterway with a cable-stayed design that combines water control functions and vehicle passage. The dual-purpose structure allows traffic to cross while managing water levels on both sides.

Built in 1965, this sluice emerged during Japan's period of rapid infrastructure development. It represented a major advancement in regional water management technology.

The structure connects to Oshiba Island, where seasonal oyster houses showcase traditional Japanese seafood cultivation practices in the Seto Inland Sea.

Visit during clear weather for the best views of the structure and surrounding water. Access is easiest from the Komatsubara side, where parking facilities are available.

Nearby sits Kōtsū Traffic Land, a facility with a go-kart track where children learn traffic safety rules through play. This blend of water management infrastructure and family recreation creates an unexpected draw for visitors.
