宗安寺

Soaiji Temple sits on Mount Godaisan and displays traditional Japanese architecture with a five-story pagoda and multiple halls for religious ceremonies. The complex comprises various buildings arranged around older structures dating from the 17th century.

The temple was founded in the mid-17th century and is one of the major religious centers in the Kochi region. The main hall was rebuilt following a typhoon in 1899, demonstrating how the site adapted to natural challenges.

The temple serves as a place where local believers come to pray and meditate in their daily spiritual practice. You can see visitors moving quietly through the grounds and pausing before the main altars.

The My Yu Bus departs from Kochi Station and takes around 25 minutes to reach the temple entrance. Wear comfortable shoes since you will climb stairs to reach the main buildings on the hillside.

The temple houses a National Treasure statue of Monju Bosatsu, one of the three most valued depictions of this Bodhisattva figure across Japan. This statue draws art enthusiasts and pilgrims who want to see such an important work.
