Shin-Ōtone Bridge, Road bridge between Toride and Kashiwa, Japan

Shin-Ōtone Bridge is a steel structure spanning 711 meters (2,335 feet) across the Tone River, connecting Toride in Ibaraki Prefecture with Kashiwa in Chiba Prefecture. The bridge has separate traffic lanes for vehicles and dedicated paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

The bridge opened on April 17, 1980, initially operating as a toll road for vehicle users. It transitioned to free access for all vehicles in April 2010 after three decades of toll collection.

The bridge serves as a daily crossing for people moving between the two prefectures and their communities. Shopping areas near the Toride side draw visitors from both regions who come to shop and meet.

The structure connects smoothly to surrounding cycling paths, making it convenient for students and commuters traveling between the cities. Access is straightforward and pathways remain relatively clear throughout the day.

During its toll period, the bridge had a special arrangement for nighttime travel that was free of charge. Pedestrians and cyclists enjoyed constant free passage throughout the entire toll era regardless of the time.
