Natsukawa Castle

Natsukawa Castle is a feudal fortress in Kibi whose remains include stone walls on the western side and earthen ramparts protecting the eastern perimeter. The site preserves the foundation layout of a medieval Japanese defensive stronghold with visible structural elements.

The fortress was founded in 1559 and served as one of several frontier strongholds during regional conflicts. It played a role in military confrontations between local powers in medieval Japan.

The castle incorporates traditional Japanese military architecture, featuring Nozurazumi style stone walls and a northwestern turret foundation that exemplifies period construction methods.

The site is within walking distance from the nearest train station and can be explored in roughly half an hour. The grounds are relatively open and freely accessible to visitors.

The surrounding landscape used natural waterways and marshland as defensive barriers around the fortress. This combination of water and built structures made it a strategically clever position in the flat region.
