Inukai Bokudō Memorial Museum, Biographical museum in Kita Ward, Japan

The Inukai Bokudō Memorial Museum displays artifacts, photographs, and calligraphy works of Prime Minister Tsuyoshi Inukai in a concrete building designed with traditional Japanese architectural elements. The structure combines modern materials with a yakuimon gate and features inspired by merchant houses of an earlier era.

The museum commemorates Prime Minister Tsuyoshi Inukai, who served as Japan's 29th Prime Minister until his assassination during the May 15 Incident in 1932. This political assassination marked a turning point in Japanese history and ended a significant period of democratic governance.

The grounds feature a karesansui garden representing the Seto Inland Sea, with white sand patterns symbolizing gentle waves around the main structure. You can walk through this carefully raked landscape and experience how traditional Japanese gardens create a sense of calm through natural materials and simple design.

The museum is located near Niwase Station and is easily accessible by public transportation. Plan to spend two to three hours for a thorough visit, and note that the site is generally quiet on weekday mornings.

The building integrates a rare combination of modern concrete construction with traditional Japanese design elements, making it an unusual example of post-war architecture. This blending of styles at this scale is seldom seen elsewhere.
