Takamatsu

Takamatsu is a port city on the northern coast of Shikoku Island, facing the Seto Inland Sea with mountains creating a natural frame. The city extends along this coastline, blending urban areas with the region's natural landscape.

The Matsudaira clan built Takamatsu Castle during the early Edo period with a unique seawater moat system for defense. These water channels remain partially visible in the city center today and mark its historical development.

The city is home to over 600 udon restaurants and serves as the center for Sanuki udon production using centuries-old preparation methods. This noodle culture runs deep in local identity and sets the city apart from other regions of Japan.
