板井原集落, Traditional Japanese settlement house in Toyo-oka, Japan
The Itaihara settlement features wooden structures arranged within cultivated fields across the Toyama plains, demonstrating traditional Japanese rural architecture.
The settlement emerged during Japan's rapid modernization in the late 19th century as farmers constructed residences directly within their rice cultivation areas.
Each residence maintains kainyo borders of trees that provide protection from winter winds while supplying materials for daily household needs.
Visitors can reach the settlement through regular train services to Toyooka Station, followed by a local bus connection to the site.
The houses incorporate a special drainage system that manages water flow from the adjacent rice fields, maintaining structural integrity throughout seasonal changes.
