Sakura Chijinkan

Sakura Chijinkan is an art museum in Hanamaki featuring four gallery spaces dedicated to Japanese Nihonga paintings. These rooms display rotating exhibitions throughout the year, showcasing artworks from different periods.

The museum was founded by Takafusa Sato and holds over 700 artworks created by painters from the Showa period, spanning 1926 to 1989. This collection documents an important era in the development of modern Japanese painting.

The museum focuses on modern Nihonga, blending classical Japanese painting techniques with contemporary subjects. Large-scale presentations allow visitors to observe the fine details and methods that characterize this art form.
