Kitakami City Museum

The Kitakami City Museum displays collections of natural history specimens, including mammals, birds, insects, and aquatic life across multiple exhibition spaces.

The museum, which opened on April 25, 1973, contains bronze dragon ornaments from the Heian Period and documents the development of the Kitakami Valley.

The museum features exhibits dedicated to traditional Japanese performing arts, including the thousand-year-old Onikenbai dance tradition of the Tohoku region.

Located near Tenshochi Park, the museum divides its exhibits between the main building and a branch facility in the Waga area of Kitakami.

The museum integrates with the Michinoku Folklore Village, where visitors can explore thirty preserved historical farmhouses from different periods.
